A Break from News Programs

Yesterday I realized I’d had enough of news programs for the moment. Regardless of whether it was on the TV or on the radio, all it does is raise my blood pressure, stress me out, or make me hopping mad.

It just seems like we are still inundated more than necessary about the former guy. As I’ve said before, we don’t need to hear his voice, see his likeness, watch a video snippet, or really hear about what he has said that day about anything.

Hearing about all the ways in which the majority isn’t welding its power is also getting old. They don’t seem to be able to expedite Biden’s cabinet picks. They don’t seem to be able censure members of Congress for their parts in the insurrection, the Big Lie, or just lying in general. They don’t seem to be able to raise the minimum wage. They don’t seem to be able to get the John Lewis Voters Rights Act passed. It is just the same old news, all talk and no action.

On the flip side, hearing about the lies of the day from Republicans is also getting old. They keep perpetuating the Big Lie. They keep working to suppress voters. They keep wanting to support the former guy. They keep wanting to sweep January 6 under the carpet. It is just the same old news.

So, I’m taking a break from the news programs. I’ll get the gist of it all through other online sources or from people I know. In doing so, I won’t have to hear the voice of a politician at the moment.

How long the break is going to be is unknown? I will say I’ve been more productive in the last 24 hours than I have in a little while since I’m not glued to seeing what is happening. One might say I’m really taking a break from politics, and I guess that is true. Must be I’ve finally hit my saturation point.

It will be interesting to see how long it lasts, but so far, it is 36 hours and counting. And, it feels good so far.
