Raise your hand if you think it will all be over on January 20, 2021.
Raise your hand if you knew it wouldn’t be over until all the hurt and harm caused by the lame duck has been addressed and rectified, meaning years from now.
In conversation with a family member today, we got on the topic of wondering what the lame duck has on the “Republicans” that causes them to act in the way they have been doing.
Over the past few weeks, elevated more so since the election, I’ve wondered the same thing. What does the lame duck have on them that causes such fear they back him no matter what? Does the lame duck have sex tapes, porn sites, hidden children, gambling issues, secret mistress/mister, in the closet, financial woes, insider trading, or some other secret on them? Or is it a tweet is scarier than doing the right thing?
I don’t think it is any of these things. I truly think it’s just who they are. They are morally, ethically, and spiritually bankrupt. Craving more and more power regardless of who is harmed, and to line their own pockets with ever more money.
The addiction to power and money is so great, they’ll do anything, including bringing our democracy to an end, to hold onto, and obtain more power and money. What the lame duck has done is given permission, through his own actions, it is okay to not care about people, embrace walking over people to get what you want, and no one is going to stop you from doing so.
Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, with the exception of the lame duck, their electorates sent them many of them back to Washington. The “Republicans” have shown us who they are, and have been showing us for the past 10 years
If anyone thought they might actually begin doing the right thing after the election, with the current administration losing, I’m afraid you will continue to wait, as a change will not be forthcoming.
The reason being, it appears they have actually come to believe their own lies and self-importance.
For the moment, and only this moment, as many states haven’t certified their elections, the Electoral College hasn’t voted, the new Congress hasn’t been seated, and the President-elect hasn’t been sworn in, but for the moment, the voters seemed to have made a choice. A choice has been made for democracy. We shall soon see if it was also a vote for justice and peace.
