For the first time ever, the moderator of a Presidential Debate will have the privilege, or the burden, of being able to turn off microphones if appropriate and needed during the debate.
Yes, two people running for the highest office in the land, and was once called the most powerful office in the world, needs someone else to remind them of civility.
But let’s be honest, the reason the moderator has this uncivil duty is because the incumbent is a rude person, a bully, who can’t stand for anyone else to have the spotlight for even a short period of time. We are at this point because the incumbent, as was told at the last debate, “Can you just shut up, man?,” can’t shut up. It still shocks me that anyone had to say this to someone who has been given the privilege of sitting behind the Resolute Desk.
Even as I write this, I am still confounded by the incumbent’s approval rating and poll numbers. I truly don’t know what kind of person is okay with the kind of incivility of someone in the highest office in the land, let alone vote for him a second time.
Personally, I like, and expect, a president who sets a good example for my children, who is a role model to young adults, and demonstrates the civility and dignity of one who feels the gravity of sitting behind the Resolute Desk.
What about you?
