Until today, I’ve not used that term really. However, it seems the most appropriate today.
The deplorable of today are women who voted for a man who feels okay grabbing a woman by the pussy and a party that believes it should be able to control a woman’s body. It is a FBI director who broke precedent and interfered with an election. It is media who wanted ratings over in-depth vetting. It is Bernie supporters who got their feelings hurt when Hillary won the nomination and stayed home from the polls. It is people of color who chose to stay home rather than vote. It is poor people who voted against their own economic and familial stability issues. It is State Attorney General’s who actively suppress and purge voter roles to win. It is so-called Christian’s who preach something on Sunday then act hypocritically the other six days of the week. It is powerful white men and billionaires who believe only they know what is best for us while really only making sure they have it all for themselves. It is Obama who failed to sound the alarm Russia was interfering in the 2016 election.
It is us, as we have allowed all of the above to happen with basically no protest.
Thousands took to the streets for the Women’s March. Thousands showed up at airports against the travel ban. Yet, when the Constitution is being shredded before our very eyes, nothing. No Hong Kong or Arab Summer style of protest. No headlines everyday in the media shouting the danger we are in. Very few people even showed up to the recent Impeach Trump protests as I was there and was saddened by the lack of numbers.
I guess we don’t believe as a whole we should have a Republic, as we can’t seem to be able to muster what is necessary to keep it, and we aren’t being torn apart from an outside force, we are tearing ourselves apart from within.
It is an interesting feeling to be both outraged and numb at the same time. I’m just not sure how to go from here knowing our great Country has fallen and fallen fast.
