First Day

Welcome to my new blog. I am making the commitment to myself and to you, to writing a blog this school year. In transferring to a new school with a focus on communication and technology, it ups the need to lead by example.

Yesterday was my first day at the new school, Zuni Elementary, in Albuquerque, NM. To say I was a little nervous was an understatement as the previous principal had been there for seven years. She had led them to achieving amazing results. There is pressure to continue this success, which of course, is my goal and would have been no matter what.

Half way through the day of amazing professional development by our instructional coach, I knew I was in the right place. While sitting with a group, I had asked a question about how technology might be used in the lesson they were planning. A teacher, after pausing, went into showing a web journal she had created with iPhoto. She described what it was, how she had created it, and how she had used it. This led to a great discussion with her grade level peers on how to introduce the use of the web journal to enhance the instruction and student learning. In listening, I actually got goosebumps listening to this discussion.

When that happened, I knew I was in the right place.

Stay tuned for my next post. We’ll see where we go on this new journey and adventure.
