Personal Reflections of a Middle-Aged Man

Thoughts and Opinions as I Grow Older

Chuck and Hakeem, Is It Fascism or Not?

Reminder: 290 and 67. The 290 represents how many U.S. House of Representatives members it takes to override a presidential veto (all Representatives are up for reelection this year). It takes 67 U.S. Senators to override a presidential veto (35 Senators are up for reelection this year with 22 of those being Republicans—the ones we have to concentrate on the most). These numbers are very important this year at the ballot box because it will take this number of votes to help right this vast ship of a country for all of us, not just the billionaire class.

As the current leaders of the Democrats, you are sending vastly mixed messages to the people of the United States (and the world).

Chuck and Hakeem, you (this is a collect you as you don’t seem to have a firm “handle” on your caucus’), keep insinuating or telling the country, we have authoritarian fascists in charge of Congress, the White House, and in many states, to which I agree.

But, on the other hand…

…you refuse to endorse duly elected Democrats from primary races as if we have the luxury of losing to another authoritarian Republican because you don’t like the candidate chosen by the electorate.

…you send strongly worded letters of concern to cabinet members and other Trump regime appointees when they aren’t following the law or Constitution, rather than taking stronger action regardless of your minority status.

…you meet with non-elected Trump regime officials, treating it as no big deal, then get angry with the electorate when we want details and rationale for doing so.

…you give in to legislation over which you have the electorate behind you to actually oppose.

…you have not committed to a firm collaborative plan to expand the Supreme Court, hold it to firm ethic guidelines, or impeach current justices who have repeatedly violated ethic rules.

…you have not provided a firm blueprint for how you will hold the Trump regime, cabinet members, and political appointees accountable for not abiding by current laws, bypassing Congress in decision-making, and ignoring the Constitution.

…you have not helped fundraise for Democratic candidates Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, Angela Nixon in Florida, Josh Turek in Iowa, David Jolly in Florida, James Talarico in Texas, or other candidates that may not fully agree with the Democratic National Party, but who believe in helping Americans—something the Democratic Party used to fully support.

…you have not, it appears, had a hard and candid conversation with Jasmine Crockett, Alani Bankhead, and others about the importance of this election to save democracy in which sacrifices must be made, such as dropping out of a race or campaigning for the person to whom they lost to provide greater chances of taking back the Senate and House, to candidly tell them they need to grow up to put country over party.

…you have not yet hired the best social media professionals to get the message out to the electorate about the damage being done to our great country by the Trump regime; the ads and social media posts practically write themselves which a great team could very effectively use to get the message out (a team that matches what has been done for Mamdani, Ossoff, Newsom, El-Sayad, and others who get it and have many messages that go viral).

If democracy and our republic are truly at risk, which it is, then the two of you, as the de facto leaders of the party need to step up your game immensely! You need to do this immediately to make significant impact over the next 60-days to get every Democrat, Independent, and true Republican voter to get to the polls and vote to get every Democrat and Independent candidate elected possible, both nationally and locally, if we are going to succeed in our fight against Fascism and authoritarianism.

Chuck and Hakeem, either step up or step aside! If you aren’t up to it, and so far all signs say you aren’t, step aside and let the adults in the room who truly care about the people, not corporate interests, take the reins to victory!

P.S.—Have you checked your voter registration status this week at Vote.org?
