The national day of collective action, May Day Strong, happens tomorrow, Friday, May 1. I hope you will participate as fully as you can. The goal is no school, no shopping, and no work for just one day.
Not all of us can do everything asked based on our own personal life experiences right now, but each of us can do something.
You can do at least one of the following for one day…
- Keep your child home from school and extracurricular activities.
- If you work for a company, a school, the government, or non-profit, take a personal or sick day.
- If you are a small business owner, close for the day.
- If you must shop, shop at a locally-owned small business that can’t close for the day.
- Don’t shop at big box stores like Target, Kroger, Best Buy, or Hobby Lobby.
- Don’t order online from places like Wayfair or Amazon.
- Cook a meal or make some coffee at home rather than go to Chick Fil A, McDonald’s, Starbucks, Chili’s, or any of the other large chains.
- Join a rally or march happening near you.
For just one day, just 24-hours, let’s send a message to the wealthy—the billionaire class—that they need us more than we need them.
Do one thing to show those who think we are nobody’s that we are somebody’s, somebody’s with power that we aren’t afraid to use.
May Day Strong! Let’s stand in solidarity!
