Personal Reflections of a Middle-Aged Man

Today was the day our nation honors our fallen hero’s, our Veterans, who fought in past wars defending democracy against global enemies, starting with those who died in World I. 

I want to start by thanking all veterans for their service. The free world thanks your family’s sacrifice, and the ultimate sacrifice of each and every one of you!

Which is why Veterans Day 2024 feels so hollow. As a nation, we now have a president-elect who disrespected former Senator McCain when president-elect Trump stated McCain was not a war hero because he was captured. Trump has also called those who died for our country losers. Let’s also not forgot when Trump refused to go to the cemetery in France because it was raining and how he used Arlington National Cemetery as the background for a political ad, which is against Cemetery rules.

Many of us are wondering how 75 million people voted for the president-elect. This means those 75 million are okay with those comments, including voters who are former military members, veterans themselves.

Sadly it also means those 75 million people are okay with what the president-elect stands for, which is Fascism, and not democracy, not a representative republic. Someone who does not believe in the Constitution, in fact has stated in the past the Constitution should be suspended. Someone who, based on what the Russian press released today, is beholden to Putin, the president of Russia.

All those fallen heroes, the hundreds of thousands, who died in Europe fighting facism, must be rolling over in their graves. Those 75 million people should be ashamed.
