Making Up for Lost Time

Well, we have another apparent sign the pandemic is coming to a close, for all practical purposes, in the U.S. Not only are administered vaccines on the rise, so too, sadly, are mass shootings.

After a decline, for the first time in several years, of mass shootings in 2020, we seem to be on track to make up for lost time. So far, we’ve had eight murders in the Atlanta spas, 10 murders at the Boulder grocery store, four murdered in an office building in Orange (CA), six murdered in Rock Hill (SC), and now eight murdered in Indianapolis at a FedEx.

The latest murderer, in Indianapolis, was only 19 years old. 19 years old! How does a 19-year-old become so angry, so upset, so irrational, they decide to go on a rampage and end the lives of innocent bystanders? Where do they get the idea that killing will solve whatever problems they have? Do they truly believe murdering another human being will actually make them feel better?

As always, I’m sure we will have lots of thoughts and prayers from the politicians. We will have people saying guns don’t kill people, people kill people. We will have those that say we have the 2nd Amendment stating we can have guns without regulation. We will continue to have all of these and more.

What we won’t have is action that can curb these senseless deaths!

We won’t have legislation stating everyone must have a background check regardless of where the gun is purchased. We won’t have a ban on semi-automatic weapons. We won’t have a ban on what are essentially machine guns meant to kill as many people as possible within a very short period of time. We won’t have a limit on the amount of ammunition a person can buy within a certain period of time. We won’t have fingerprint ID on guns to help prevent their use by someone other than the legal owner (who has gone through a background check).

What we won’t have is a true and accurate interpretation of the 2nd Amendment!

What we will have is another Sandy Hook, another Columbine, another FedEx, another Pulse, another Las Vegas, another Emanuel African Methodist Church, another Tree of Life, another Parkland, another, and another, and another.

When will it be too much and how many more lives must be lost?

How many?!
