Another Project Complete

Today, we finished the next project for my mom’s place.

As you may remember, last year we rebuilt her deck as the old one was falling apart beneath our feet.

We didn’t get the chance to waterproof the new one before winter. This year, we wanted to make sure to put on a stain or paint before it got too late in the season. Of course, it rained last evening, meaning we had to wait for the sun to burn brightly today to dry it off before starting. Then, of course, the wind started blowing. I had brought my sprayer to put the stain on, meaning it seemed as if as much went into the wind as went on the deck. Sometimes you just got to get ‘er done!

My sister, nephews and I worked together to get it completed. There was a moment of minor panic when we started. You know how what you see on the paint store swatch looks so great, then you actually put the paint on the wall, and it’s like, “Whoa!,” is that what I bought?

Luckily, after the initial shock of how orange the stain went on wet, and it started to dry, it actually did fade into the color I had expected, enhancing the natural color of the wood. I did wonder for a moment if my mom would have the most outstanding deck in the neighborhood, and not in a good way.

So, check, another project down. Now on to the next one.
